Elk Grove’s Newest Park and Sport Complex Opens

The new Hal Barthlomew Sports Complex on Whitelock and Franklin High in Elk Grove has finally taken down it’s chain link fence and let in the public! Neighborhood residents have been anxiously awaiting the completion of the complex. This evening’s rush of residents to the park to enjoy the state-of-the-art play ground and 4 tennis courts showed the enthusiasm of all the neighbors.

The soft ground around the playground and one-of-a-kind play equipment kept the kids running around, jumping, and bouncing until dark. While the play area is not expansive like the other local parks, that is part of the usefulness of this particular play area. For all the different sporting fields, there is just the one location for the kids to play – so parents will have an easier time knowing where their kids are playing during the sporting events.

Personally I look forward to seeing the baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse and other events that are coming our way!

The weekend offered multiple softball games by the local senior teams. Some of those old guys can run!

The tennis courts are open for use, too!

All the football and soccer fields are AstroTurf. With a weekend of temperatures in the 80′s, the heat waves and ground temperature were too hot for bare feet. It will be interesting to see the heat waves coming off the field when it’s 100 out there.
